General Voting day is Saturday, October 17, 2026 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, 273 Power Street or at Skaha Lake Elementary School, 110 Green Avenue West. Please note that Skaha Lake Elementary School is a smaller venue and there may be line ups.
There is no need to pre-register to vote as the City of Penticton will be using the Provincial Voters List, updated in August 2026. If you are not on the list, you will be able to register at the time of voting.
Resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.
Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property (ownership), and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the majority of the property owners.
At the time of voting you will be required to make a declaration that you meet the following qualification requirements:
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17, 2026)
• Canadian citizen
• Resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration
• Current resident of Penticton, OR registered owner of real property in the City of Penticton for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration, and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.
Assent Voting
Assent voting (referendum) is a form of elector approval that allows electors to vote on whether a local government proposal moves forward or not. Assent of the electors is obtained if a majority (50% plus one) of the votes counted are in favour of the bylaw or question posed by the local government.
The 2026 Local General Election will include an assent voting opportunity on the following question:
“Are you in favour of the removal of the trust condition included in the 1912 Indenture that restricts the use of the City of Penticton property located at 325 Power Street to “games, sports and athletics of all kinds whatsoever and for horse-racing, park purposes, agricultural or fruit exhibitions or other objects of a public nature”, so that the City may use, convey, lease and otherwise deal with that property free of that trust condition? YES or NO”
